most ofhis life on the road, driving
backandforthacrossNorthAmerica,
loggingabout40,000 miles annually.
He's visited more than 1,600 ofthe
nations 3,145 counties, andhasspent
more than 2,000 nights residing in
hotel rooms, slummingwith friends,
or crashing with various relatives
he is always most appreciative ofhis
hosts' kindgenerosity. In recentyears,
he's lived in Manhattan, Brooklyn,
and rural New Hampshire, and has
spent extended periods in Atlanta,
Boston, San Francisco, Connecticut,
and Rhode Island, as well as overseas in London and Amsterdam. While presently
based in Santa Fe, NewMexico, he still spends much oftheyear in NewEngland.
Upon graduating from Connecticut's Wesleyan University in 1991, Andrewjoined
Fodor's Travel Publications, where he edited or co-edited more than a dozen travel
guides. SinceleavingFodor's in 1993, hehas contributed to more than 100 travel books
asbothwriterandeditor, authoringFodor's Gay Guideto the USA, MoonHandbooks Con-
necticut, and nowMoon HandbooksRhodeIsland. His travel column "OutofTown" ap-
pears in gay and lesbian newspapers throughout North America; his work has also

appeared in numerous magazines, including Travel Leisureand TheHollandHerald.
On those rareoccasionswhen he's noton the road,Andrewcan often be found brows-
ingthegoods at farmers markets andgourmet foodstores, orputting them to use in his
kitchen. He also enjoys avarietyofoutdooractivities, includingjogging, kayaking, and
golfing, and follows professional baseball with adisturbingdegree offanaticism. Acon-
fessed pop-culture junkie, he scans online newspapers and newswires every day in
search ofodd trivia and amusing gossip about has-been celebrities. After finishing
one ofhis guidebooks, he's been known to watch NickatNiteor the Game ShowNet-
work for hours on end, until fadingblissfullyinto trance-likestupor. Such is the lifeof
