FOREWORD
Much of the research in business education has not been available
to those who could profit from its use. As a partial contribution to the
solution of this need, a series of studies is being conducted at Indiana
University under the sponsorship of the Department of Business Education
and Office Training, Dr. Elvin S. Byster, Chairman. Each of these studies
w ill include an analysis of the research reports dealing with a particular
area of business education. Abstracts of the individual research reports
and a comprehensive, master bibliography of a ll research on problems that
have been studied in the area w ill be presented.
The firs t study in the series, in the area of shorthand and tran
scription, was completed in 191*6. In addition to the present study in
the area of instruction in typewriting, an investigation of research
reports dealing with the teaching of bookkeeping is nearing completion.
Additional studies in the series, in the areas of office practice,
sales and distributive education, general business education, and adminis
tration and supervision, have been planned and are now in process.
