This document discusses a study on removing phosphate from wastewater using low-cost adsorbents. Four different adsorbents were tested - alum sludge, coal ash, class C fly ash, and ground granulated blast furnace slag. Batch and column tests were conducted to determine optimum conditions and adsorption capacities. The batch tests examined the effect of pH, adsorbent dosage, and contact time on phosphate removal efficiency. Results showed that a pH of 5 and dosage of 10g/100ml worked best for the sludge, fly ash and slag. For coal ash, a pH of 7 and dosage of 7.5g/100ml was optimal.
