About the Editors
Professor Nelson Norman MB ChB, PhD, MD, DSc, FRCS (Edin & Glasg),
FFOM, FRSB, CB is a graduate of the Universities of Glasgow and Aberdeen.
He is President of the International Remote Healthcare Association and a Senior
Research Fellow at Glasgow University. Former posts held were President of the
Institute of Remote Healthcare, Director of the British Antarctic Survey Medical
Unit, Professor of Community Medicine at the UAE University, Medical Director
RGIT Survival Centre Ltd., Director RGIT Centre for Offshore Health, Professor
of Environmental Medicine, University of Aberdeen and Consultant Surgeon,
Grampian Health Board.
Dr Malcolm J Valentine MB ChB, MD, FRCGP, DRCOG is a graduate of the
University of Aberdeen. He researched causes of medical evacuations from
offshore installations, practiced Hyperbaric Medicine, was a HSE Appointed
Radiation Doctor and Occupational Health Doctor — parallel to his career-long
role as a General Practitioner. He was for a number of years Editor of the Journal
of the IRHC.

About the Authors
Professor David A Alexander MA (Hons), CPsychol, PhD, (Hon) DSc, FBPS,
FRSM, (Hon) FRCPsych is Emeritus Professor of Mental Health in Aberdeen.
Formerly, he was a Professor of Mental Health in the Faculty of Medicine,
Aberdeen University; Consultant in Charge of the Regional Traumatic Stress
Clinic and Director of the Aberdeen Centre for Trauma Research. He has worked
with the Scottish Police for over 20 years, and is an Associate Member of both the
Scottish Institute for Policing Research and the Scottish Police College. He has
also been deployed operationally to local, national and international incidents of a
serious nature. He is one of three Principal Advisors to the UK police services for
the most serious incidents. Over a seven- year-period he was a Visiting Consultant
at HMP Peterhead, when it was Scotland’s maximum-security prison.
Professor Sergey Antipov PhD, Professor of Siberian State Medical University,
General Director of CCM LLC (Russia). From 1992–1999 Dr Antipov worked
as a surgeon in the Research Institute of Oncology of Tomsk Scientific Center,
Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. Since 1996 he has been
holding a teaching fellow position with the Department of Oncology at Siberian
State Medical University. He has published more than 85 scientific papers with
much of his research focused on the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment
of gastric cancer. Sergey Antipov obtained a Doctor of Medical Sciences (PhD)
degree in 2012 and was appointed as a Professor in the Department of Surgery
and Oncology in 2013.
Dr Antipov is particularly interested in innovations and investments in healthcare
services. In 2006 he founded a company specializing in providing occupational
medicine services. By 2014 Dr Antipov had founded several companies that were
consolidated by the managing company CCM LLC. Today CCM LLC provided
various industrial medicine and healthcare services in Russia and abroad.
Erzhena Badmaeva PhD student, Siberian State Medical University. She works
as the Head of the Health Department of the Tomsk region. Erzhena has been
involved in telemedicine research for over 5 years. She’s currently conducting
a joint research with the Association of Remote Healthcare (Russia) on remote
healthcare issues.
