INTRODUCTION
This book is the third to be published in the ‘Findhorn Lectures Series.’
During his three-year stay within the Findhorn community, David Spangler
acted as a point of focus for certain verbalizations destined to highlight and
place into perspective the experiment conducted within the community it
self. Through his attunement and the energies he was able to embody in his
own life, David could become a reflector of the community’s consciousness
and higher purpose.
These Reflections on the Christ are part of an on-going process of co-creative
exploration and represent an attempt to communicate insights on the value
and significance of the Christ energies for our age. They have individual, com
munity and planetary relevance.
The first nine chapters of the book are, with the exception of the ‘Letter to
an Enquiring Minister,’ lectures given to the community or in College classes.
The lecture on the 'Christ' was previously published in the book Towards a
Planetary Vision.’ It has been re-introduced here for it forms an essential link
to the other themes developed in the book. The ‘Open Letter’ was written
one and a half years after David had gone back to the United States and
addresses itself to the community’s efforts to work more consciously with the
Christ process and meet the challenges which this implies. ‘Attunement to
Wholeness’ was a lecture given at ‘The World Crisis and the Wholeness of Life’
conference in October 1976 at Findhorn.
We hope that this book will assist you to become more fully aware of the
Christ Presence flaming within your own heart and the heart of humanity and
so release into your life the joy, the love and the light which are the essence
of His and your being.

THE CHRIST PATTERN
Each one of us is intimately concerned with the unfoldment and development
of that pattern which for centuries has been called the Christ pattern. This is
true wherever an individual may be upon the Earth, whatever creed or
religion he is involved in, whatever nationality which he belongs to. I wish to
share with you an understanding of how the Christ has been functioning on
this planet for a very long time. How he will do so in the future, the future
will unfold. It is true that we are all very involved with that unfoldment. And
a centre like this is working directly to manifest something very much part of
the Christ pattern.
We will begin by going back in time and looking first at the Earth and
its pattern. The Earth is a special planet. It is the only planet in this solar
system that has highly evolved life functioning to this degree of density,
within physical matter. All of the planets are inhabited, but the life on the
other planets is primarily etheric and planes above. The Earth is the only one
in this system which has a highly developed species operating on such a low-
level vibratory frequency. This has been part of the Earth’s pattern.
The Earth has fulfilled many functions within the solar system. Part of
its function has been to provide that particular environment in which spiritual
consciousness can come to grips with matter-hard, dense physical matter.
In order to do this, spiritual life has had to adapt itself in much the
same way that a diver needs to adapt himself in descending to the depths. Our
bodies are not conditioned for life under the ocean. We are too buoyant. If
we attempt to dive very far without any kind of artificial aid, it is not only a
question of not being able to breathe, it is a question of not being able to get
down very far because of the buoyancy of the body. So we have to, in some
fashion, place weights; sometimes it is a simple belt of lead weights, other
times it is an entire suit. These weights help us overcome our natural buoyancy
and help us to remain under and to go down deeper.
