Preface
The Third International Conference on Network Security and Applications
(CNSA-2010) focused on all technical and practical aspects of security and its
applications for wired and wireless networks. The goal of this conference is to bring
together researchers and practitioners from academia and industry to focus on
understanding modern security threats and countermeasures, and establishing new
collaborations in these areas. Authors are invited to contribute to the conference by
submitting articles that illustrate research results, projects, survey work and industrial
experiences describing significant advances in the areas of security and its
applications, including:

• Peer-to-Peer Network Security
• Database and System Security

There were 182 submissions to the conference and the Program Committee selected
63 papers for publication. The book is organized as a collection of papers from the
First International Workshop on Trust Management in P2P Systems (IWTMP2PS
2010), the First International Workshop on Database Management Systems (DMS-
2010), and the First International Workshop on Mobile, Wireless and Networks
Security (MWNS-2010). Finally, we would like to thank the General Chairs, local
organizing team and Program Committee members and reviewers for arranging and
organizing this conference.

Workshop Preface
The First International Workshop on Trust Management in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Sys-
tems (IWTMP2PS 2010), held in Chennai, India, during July 23–25, 2010, was co-
located with the Third International Conference on Network Security and Applications
(CNSA 2010). It attracted many local and international delegates, presenting a bal-
anced mixture of intellects from the East and from the West.
A distributed system involves numerous entities, many of which have not yet previ-
ously interacted with each other. Thus, there is a need for a flexible and general-
purpose trust management system which can maintain information that is current,
secured and consistent for these different entities in the distributed system. Hence,
P2P computing has emerged as a new distributed computing paradigm for sharing
distributed resources that are available on the Internet. Currently, more complex P2P
systems require more management solutions especially in the areas of security and
trust. The open and anonymous nature of a P2P network makes it an ideal medium for
attackers to spread malicious content. Hence, the IWTMP2PS 2010 workshop was
aimed at establishing a state of the art for security and trust in P2P systems, and to
provide a forum for the exchange of ideas between P2P researchers working on trust
and security issues. The areas of interest included topics such as advances in theoreti-
cal, managerial and/or performance analysis of security and trust issues in P2P frame-
works and applications.
The IWTMP2PS 2010 Workshop Committee rigorously invited submissions for
many months from researchers, scientists, engineers, students and practitioners related
to the relevant themes and tracks of the workshop. This effort guaranteed submissions
from an unparalleled number of internationally recognized top P2P trust and security
experts. All the submissions underwent a strenuous peer-review process which com-
prised expert reviewers. These reviewers were selected from a talented pool of Tech-
nical Committee members and external reviewers on the basis of their expertise. The
papers were then reviewed based on their contributions, technical content, originality
and clarity. The entire process, which includes the submission, review and acceptance
processes, was done electronically. All these efforts undertaken by the Organizing and
Technical Committees led to an exciting, rich and a high-quality technical workshop
program, which featured high-impact presentations, for all attendees to enjoy, appre-
ciate and expand their expertise in the latest developments in P2P trust and security
research.
In closing, IWTMP2PS 2010 brought together researchers, scientists, engineers,
students and practitioners to exchange and share their experiences, new ideas and
research results in all aspects of the main workshop themes and tracks, and to discuss
the practical challenges encountered and the solutions adopted. We would like to
thank the General and Program Chairs, organization staff, the members of the Techni-
cal Program Committees and external reviewers for their excellent and tireless work.
We also want to thank Springer for the strong support and the authors who contributed

to the success of the workshop. We also sincerely wish that all attendees benefited
scientifically from the workshop and wish them every success in their research.
It is the humble wish of the workshop organizers that the professional dialogue
among the researchers, scientists, engineers, students and educators continues beyond
