It is commonly admitted at present that the border between the basic and applied
researches in sciences becomes more and more diffuse and time lag between the
fundamental discoveries and their implementation in technology and social life
diminishes continuously with an impressive rate. This is associated with an
unprecedented interdisciplinary approach and innovative tools for the progress of
both basic knowledge and emerging technologies. Among the most spectacular
breakthroughs of the technologies developed during the last decade are grounded
on the interconnected fields of natural and life sciences, mathematics, computer
science, and engineering.
Thisvolumeofproceedingsistheoutcomeofthe17thInternationalConference
on Global Research and Education, Inter-Academia 2018 hosted by Kaunas
University of Technology, Lithuania, from September 24 to 27, 2018, and orga-
nizedbythephysicsdepartmentofFacultyofMathematicsandNaturalSciencesof
Kaunas University of Technology (https://interacademia.ktu.edu). It is the fourth
volume in the series, following the editions from 2015 to 2017. The International
Advisory Conference Committee was run by the members of the International
Society of Inter-Academia community.
The International Conference on Global Research and Education,
Inter-Academia is an annual event organized every autumn by the Inter-Academia
community since 2002. The main goal of Inter-Academia 2018 is to provide a
well-articulatedinternationalforum toreview, stimulate, andunderstandtherecent
trends in both fundamental and applied researches, along with the associated
educational programs andtraining for students. Inter-Academiacommunity (I-AC)
—a body comprising 14 universities and research institutes from Japan and
Central/Eastern European countries that agreed, in 2002, to coordinate their
research and education programs so as to better address today’s challenges. This
conferencepromotestheInter-Academiaphilosophyamongprofessors,researchers,
and students from the partner institutions—Shizuoka University, East-Central and
Eastern European universities. Besides the interest in recent research results, the
conference aims to strengthen the cooperation between the partners of

Inter-Academia community toward new theoretical and practical advances in
research.
The Inter-Academia 2018 international conference continues a series of 16
uninterrupted similar events, initiated in 2002 and successively hosted by the
partner universities. This event is an exceptional platform that brings together a
wide spectrum of thematic areas in the fields of material science and technology,
nanotechnologyandnanometrology,biotechnologyandenvironmentalengineering,
plasmaphysics,photonics,manufacturingtechnology,signalandimageprocessing,
electric and electronic engineering, measurement, identification, and control,
intelligent and soft computing techniques, modeling and diagnostics, robotics,
precision engineering, Internet-based education, distance learning, and multimedia
and e-learning.
Thirty-eight selected papers were included in the Springer proceedings after a
thorough two-stage review and editing process. All the manuscripts submitted to
theInter-Academia2018werepeer-reviewedbyatleasttwoindependentreviewers,
whowereprovidedwithadetailedreviewform.Thecommentsfromthereviewers
were communicated to the authors, who incorporated the suggestions in their
revised manuscripts. The recommendations from reviewers were taken into con-
siderationwhileselectingamanuscriptforinclusionintheproceedings.Herein,we
wouldliketoexpressourgratitudetotheauthors,andespeciallytoreviewers,who
greatlycontributedtoensuringtheproperscientificlevelofthearticlesinthisbook.
