Currently the ComputerAided Prototyping System software developmentenvironmentprovides monitoring
techniques forreal-time tasking execution times. However, these techniques are constrained in thatthere is onlya
provision forsimple errormessages tobe presented uponexecution failure such as that causedby amisseddeadline. This
approachnecessitates thatthe software system designerhaphazardly guess a tasksetexecution time.
This thesis performedan examination offine grain execution timing. This work was accomplished through the
developmentofaprogram to perform truedynamic run time datacollection ofthe typical task setexecution exhibited
within areal-time environment.
The results ofthis workis an accurate andefficientreal-time task setexecution monitoring software program
which assists in overcoming the problem oftask setexecution run time prediction. The program itselfhas been embedded
within theComputer Aided Prototyping System environmentand is an enhancementover the previousmonitoring
technique by providing the systemdesigner with true andaccurate run time execution times. The validation ofthe diesis
workhas been performed by successfuldesign anddevelopmentoftime critical real-time prototype software within the
Computer AidedPrototyping System using the execution monitoring program.
