This document summarizes a study that evaluated the performance of a zero water discharge (ZWD) system for super intensive white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) culture at low salinity. There were three treatments: a control with weekly water exchanges, a ZWD system with nitrifying bacteria and microalgae added, and a ZWD system with microalgae and Bacillus megaterium added. The ZWD systems improved water quality and increased shrimp growth rate and survival compared to the control. The best results were seen in the ZWD system with microalgae and B. megaterium, demonstrating that these microbial components can enhance ZWD system performance for low salinity white shrimp farming.
