NOTICE OF PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT BY A LOCAL AUTHORITY

R498 Road Realignment Scheme at Latteragh:
Improvements to the R498 in the townlands of Currabaha, Glenmore Lower, Gurteen, Garrane,
Bigpark, Sallypark, Curragh, Carrick (Maunsell) and Carrick (Dawson) in the Electoral Districts of
Latteragh, Kilnaneave and Glenkeen, County Tipperary
In accordance with the Planning and Development Regulations 2001 as amended, notice is hereby given that Tipperary County
Council proposes to carry out development, as described below, in the above‐named townlands in the Electoral Districts of
Latteragh, Kilnaneave and Glenkeen, County Tipperary:

The proposed road development will be comprised of the following proposed elements:

 Widening and realignment of the existing R498 Regional Road for approximately 4.3km to a Type 2 Single Carriageway
road – including 7.0m carriageway road, 2 No. 0.5m hard strips and 2 No. grass verges generally 2.5m wide;
 Provision of a shared Footway / Cycleway 2.0m wide along the length of the improved R498;
 4 No. at Grade Junctions;
 Excavation of the existing road or part of;
 Excavation of land adjacent to the existing road;
 Construction of a new road;
 Construction of two clear span river bridges over the Nenagh River;
 Construction of culverts;
 Construction of Drainage works incorporating Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS);
 Earthworks including excavation of unacceptable roadwork’s material;
 Disposal / recovery of unacceptable roadwork’s material;
 Utility Diversions;
 Road Pavement and Road Markings;
 Access and Accommodation Works;
 Ancillary Road Works and Traffic Management.

The development has been the subject of an Appropriate Assessment screening in accordance with the Planning and
Development Act 2000 as amended. The Appropriate Assessment screening concluded that the proposed development would
not be likely to give rise to significant or indeterminate impacts on any Natura site.

An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) screening process was carried out for the project and it was determined that the
scheme would not have a significant effect on the Environment, and that an EIA is not required

Plans and particulars of the proposed development will be available for inspection or purchase at a fee not exceeding the
reasonable cost of making a copy during office hours at the offices of the local authority for a specified period between the
hours of 9.30am to 4.30 pm on Mondays to Fridays (excluding bank holidays) from Thursday 27th April 2017 to Friday 9th June
2017 at the following location:

Roads Department,
Tipperary County Council,
Civic Offices, Limerick Road,
Nenagh, Co. Tipperary

A copy of the plans and particulars of the proposed development may also be viewed on the Tipperary County Council website
at www.tipperarycoco.ie

Submissions or observations with respect to the proposed development dealing with the proper planning and sustainable
development of the area in which the development will be situated may be made in writing to the undersigned or emailing
[email protected] before 4.30 pm on Friday 23rd June 2017.
