This document describes an experiment that achieved quantum computational advantage using Gaussian boson sampling (GBS) with photons. Researchers generated 50 single-mode squeezed states with high indistinguishability and squeezing as inputs into a 100-mode interferometer. They observed up to 76 output photon clicks, corresponding to a sampling rate ~1014 times faster than the fastest known classical simulation. The samples were validated against various hypotheses to demonstrate they did not come from classical distributions. This experiment provides strong evidence against the extended Church-Turing thesis by showing a quantum device outperforming classical computers on an important sampling problem.
