Foreword
This book is a revised version of my dissertation completed at Brandeis
University in 2003. It is a culmination and ultimately a reflection of my
education under my teachers at University of Denver, Harvard University,
Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and Brandeis University. They have imparted
their wealth of knowledge, probing questions, and most importantly, love of
Bible and Assyriology. I can never thank them enough for all I've learned
inside and outside of the classroom.
Specific to the actual production of the dissertation, I would like to
acknowledge and thank my committee members, Tzvi Abusch and Marc Zvi
Brettler at Brandeis University, and Angela Bauer at Episcopal Divinity
School. They have taken time to read and comment on the dissertation. I am
particularly grateful to David P. Wright, my dissertation advisor, who has
patiently and methodically critiqued and provided extremely helpful insights.
His eye for detail and passion for scholarship pervades this work. The
dissertation, thus this book, could not have been written without his guidance.
