Introduction:-
 In present era the world is facing many
environmental diseases. An estimated 12.6
million people died as a result of living or
working in an unhealthy environment.
WHO estimated in 2012 nearly 1 in 4 of total
global deaths occurs due to environmental
diseases.
Environmental risk factors are air, water and soil
pollution, climate change, chemical exposure UV
rays.
 In ayurveda our acharyas already described
environmental health in form of Dincharya,
Ritucharya and Janpadodhvansa
 Acharya Charak has also described symptoms of
samanya vayu (Normal Air) , Vikrutvayu (Polluted
air), and vishdushit vayu (poisoned air).
 It is not possible to explore such a vast topic air
pollution in a paper, hence I have chosen single air
pollutant i.e. mosquito repellent among all air
pollutant.
AIM OF THE STUDY:-
 Mosquitoes, tick, sandflies are responsible
for vector born diseases like Malaria Dengue
etc.
To avoid these diseases people using mosquito
repellent coil, liquid etc.
researchers shows harmful effects of
repellents used against mosquito

Effect of harmful chemicals
Pyrethroids seriously affect the sodium channel
and hyper excitation of the nervous system.
Subnormal or super normal excitability by
affecting the sodium channels opening time.
Effect of harmful chemicals

and an increase in vascularity of the
alveolar wall.
 Smoke of mosquito coil contains particulate matter
(2.5) which is equally produced by smoke of 75-137
cigarettes and release of formaldehyde from burning
of one mosquito coil is equal to same mass produced
by burning 51 cigarettes.
Other health related disease caused by mosquito
repellent are:
*Asthma
*Lung cancer
*Allergy
* Throat infection.
*Skin rashes
*Swelling,
*Anaphylactic shock
*low blood pressure.
So their is need to find out Ayurvedic potential
In vector control
Prevention by Ayurvda:
Echo friendly herbal mosquito repellent:-
In this study an echo friendly mosquito
repellent is mad by cow dung, Nerium flower,
Tulsi leaves, lemongrass oil, loban powder,
Neem leaves with binding agent like maida,
saw dust.
 In this study significant effect of echo friendly
mosquito repellent found than commercial
mosquito repellent and has no side effect like
that.

Citronella Oil:
Source- Cympogon Winterianus (Rohish)
Citronella (Rohish) is a native plant of India and tropical Asia.
Characteristics of oil:
Citronella oil is a colorless or light yellow liquid with a
characteristic woody, grassy, or lemony odour, citronella oil has
minimal or no risk to wildlife and environment due to its toxic
levels being low and it’s use being limited therefore it can be use
around the home with no expected adverse effects.
As insect repellent:-
Citronella oil repels insect such as mosquitoes black flies, fleas
and ticks therefore preventing it’s bites, it is used on human and
their clothing in the form of oil liquid and patch.
