Introduction
Ce livre contient un certain nombre des contributions proposé es à l'occasion du premier
colloque Franco-Chypriote de didactique des mathé matiques d'octobre 2009. Ce
colloque, le premier du genre, vient concré tiser une longue collaboration en didactique
des mathé matiques entre chercheurs chypriotes, français et grecs. Cette collaboration
remonte aux anné es 80 où des travaux de thèses furent conduits à l'Université de
Strasbourg sous les directions de François Pluvinage et Raymond Duval. Notamment
sous l'influence d'Athanasios Gagatsis, les é changes se sont renforcé s et ont pris une
envergure internationale lors des colloques organisé s par l’European Research in
Mathematics Education (ERME). Lors de ces rencontres internationales, les é changes
ont permis d'avancer dans la collaboration et de confronter les mé thodes de travail et les
problé matiques dans des contextes bien diffé rents mais partageant une profonde culture
commune. Plus spé cifiquement, le groupe de travail sur la gé omé trie animé par Alain
Kuzniak, avec l'aide pré cieuse d'Iliada Elia et Bernard Parszysz, a permis de tisser des
liens forts dont ce premier colloque Franco-Chypriote est le fruit.
Les contributions françaises é manent toutes du Laboratoire de Didactique André Revuz
de l’université Paris Diderot. Ce Laboratoire de recherche ré sulte de la fusion de deux
é quipes de didactique de l'Université Paris Diderot, l'une de didactique des
mathé matiques (Didirem) et l'autre de didactique de la physique (Ldsp). Un des thèmes
privilé gié s par le laboratoire est celui de l'articulation entre Mathé matiques et Ré alité s,
vaste thème qui permet d'interroger l'enseignement des contenus mathé matiques de base
du point de la modé lisation et des applications des mathé matiques au monde ré el.
La didactique des mathé matiques est un vaste champ de recherche comme l’indique la
pluralité des sujets abordé s lors de ce colloque. Les articles sont regroupé s en six
chapitres et traitent des grands thèmes de la didactique :
1- Enseignement et apprentissage numé rique : ce chapitre est axé sur la
proportionnalité et les structures multiplicatives à l’é cole primaire ;
2- Enseignement et apprentissage gé omé trique : ce chapitre balaye un large
spectre de l’enseignement de la gé omé trie en prenant notamment appui sur les
travaux de Duval ainsi que ceux de Houdement et Kuzniak ;
3- Formation en mathé matiques des enseignants : les trois articles de ce chapitre
é manent du Laboratoire de Didactique André Revuz et abordent des thèmes
d’actualité comme la comparaison internationale, la modé lisation ou les aspects
sé miotiques ;
4- Rô le des repré sentations dans l’apprentissage des mathé matiques : les trois
articles de ce chapitre s’inté ressent largement aux repré sentations des nombres et
des fonctions, aux conversions entre ces repré sentations, ainsi qu’aux diffé rentes
interpré tations de ces concepts mathé matiques ;

5- Regards sur l’enseignement des mathé matiques : les deux articles de ce
chapitre s’appuient sur la cré ativité en mathé matiques et exposent deux visions
globales de l’enseignement des mathé matiques ;
6- Connaissance gé omé triques en contexte non-scolaire : avec pour thèmes les
intuitions des Indiens d’Amazonie et la construction de mosaïques par les
Romains de l’antiquité , ce chapitre propose deux é tudes didactiques de la
gé omé trie hors d’une institution scolaire.
Une des caracté ristiques première de l'approche didactique suivie dans ce livre est son
ouverture aux diffé rents cadres thé oriques qui nourrissent le champ de la didactique
sans être infé odé e à l'un ou à l'autre de ces cadres. Cette diversité de positionnement
thé orique est indispensable pour permettre les collaborations fructueuses entre
chercheurs de pays diffé rents – entre chercheurs chypriotes, espagnols, français et grecs
pour ce colloque. Par un jeu de miroir entre les diffé rents articles, il est possible de
saisir les points de convergence entre les é quipes mais aussi leurs diffé rences, source de
complé mentarité . Selon nous, cette diversité des approches permet un traitement des
problèmes rencontré s dans l'enseignement, tant au niveau cognitif que didactique ou
mathé matique, le plus efficace possible.

Introduction
This book contains a number of contributions presented in the first French-Cypriot
conference of didactic of mathematics held in October 2009. This conference, the first
of its kind, came to strengthen the long collaboration that already exists between
Cypriot, French and Greek researchers that deal with the didactic of mathematics. This
collaboration dates back to the eighties where various theses were carried out at the
University of Strasbourg under the directions of François Pluvinage and Raymond
Duval. In particular under the influence of Athanasios Gagatsis, the exchanges were
reinforced to such a degree that the conferences organized by the European Society for
Research in Mathematics Education (ERME) took on an international character. During
these international meetings, the exchanges that took place facilitated the advancement
of collaborations in order to confront the different work methods and problems that
exist in quite a different context but nevertheless sharing a deep common culture. More
specifically, the work group on geometry organized by Alain Kuzniak, with the
invaluable assistance of Iliada Elia and Bernard Parszysz, made it possible to weave a
strong bond with the first French-Cypriot conference being the fruit of their labor.
The French contributions all emanate from the Laboratory of Didactic André Revuz of
the University Paris Diderot. This Research laboratory resulted from the union of two
teams on didactic from the University Paris Diderot, one of didactic of mathematics
(Didirem) and the other of didactic of physics (Ldsp). One of the topics dealt with by
the laboratory is that of the articulation between Mathematics and Realities, a vast topic
which makes it possible to question the teaching of the basic mathematical contents of
the point of modeling and the applications of mathematics to the real-world.
The didactic aspect of mathematics is a vast research field as the plurality of the
subjects undertaken at the time of this conference indicates. The articles are categorized
in six chapters and engage in broad topics of the didactic aspect:
1 – Numerical Teaching and Learning: this chapter is centered on the
multiplicative proportionality and structures at elementary school;
2 – Geometrical Teaching and Learning: this chapter sweeps a broad spectrum
of teaching of geometry but in particular taking support on the work of Duval
and of Houdement and Kuzniak;
3 – Mathematics Teachers’ Education: the three articles of this chapter emanate
from the Laboratory of Didactic André Revuz and approach topics of topicality
like the international comparison, modeling or the semiotic aspects;
4 – The Role of Representations in Mathematical Learning: the three articles in
this chapter mainly focus on the representations of numbers and functions,
conversions between representations, as well as various interpretations of these
mathematical concepts;

5 – Perspectives on Mathematics Teaching: the two articles of this chapter are
based on creativity in mathematics and give two comprehensive views of
teaching mathematics;
6 – Geometrical Knowledge in Out-of-School Contexts: with topics such as the
intuitions of the Indians of Amazonia and the construction of mosaics by the
Romans of antiquity, this chapter proposes two didactic studies on geometry out
of the educational context.
One of the characteristics of the didactic approach followed in this book is its opening
to the various theoretical executives which nourish the field of didactic without being
pledged to one or to the other of these frameworks. This diversity of theoretical
positioning is essential to allow fruitful collaborations between researchers of different
countries - between Cypriots, Spanish, French and Greeks who will participate in this
conference. By taking a glance at the various articles, it is possible to seize the
convergence points between the teams but also their differences, source of
complementarity. We believe that this diversity of approaches allows us to treat the
problems encountered in teaching in various ways, as well as at the level of cognitive as
didactic or mathematical in the most effective way possible.
