Simply put, short-term rentals kill hospitality industry jobs. Short term rentals require no front
desk staff, no concierge, no bellhop, no maid, no doorman, no general manager, no accountant,
and the list goes on. Our hotel industry provides good paying jobs year-round. Please do not
allow whole house rentals that provide no employment opportunities. And please keep short
term rentals out of the French Quarter.

I am against short term rentals. There is NO evidence that short term rentals bring any more
visitors to cities. Short term rentals split up the pie in a way that kills jobs. New Orleans doesn’t
need short term rentals outside of an owner-occupied double with a homestead exemption.

We have an affordable housing crisis in the City of New Orleans. The shortage of housing has
been proven on many levels. According to the Housing NOLA study, we need 33,000 more units
in this city to combat the housing shortage and correlative inflation in housing prices and rental
prices. For every short-term rental operating illegally in this city, there is the loss of a housing
unit on the market. Therefore, the existing housing crisis is being exacerbated on a large scale by
short-term rentals. For this reason, I oppose whole house, short-term rentals in the city.

And there is a big demand for Air-bnb.

Why not encourage people to renovate one of our many dilapidated and abandoned homes - and
make them legal short-term rentals . . . .

To whom it may concern. Although short term rentals should be a viable option for consumers and
building owners, the public needs to be protected for fire and safety in all locations if anonymous guests
rent here in New Orleans. Without fire and safety compliance we run the risk of a major accident
occurring to the residence and public. Also, too many short term rental in a neighborhood makes the
traffic and lack of concern by patrons a problem with residences. Control on how many on a block and in
a neighborhood should be controlled to keep resident neighborhoods safe and sound.

hello,
please note that i am a bornno(born and rained in nola)
i am writing this to show support for any and all vacation style rentals.
my family amd i have used thses extensively over the past couple years especially here in nola.
from inlaws/ relatives/friends coming to town, while renovating our home, when we needed to
tent our home because of termites and wanted to by close to home and just because it is a nice
way to travel and the people it brings to areas that would not have seen or come.

-the whole complaint that it takes away from the rental pool is has plenty holes in it. the rents
have risen mainly because of the cost it takes to purchase,renovate, insure and to pay the
property taxes. so weather it is a vacation rental or not, it cost makor money to own and rent out
property here.

-no one is complaining that it is too expensive to live in aspen or nyc.
you have to pay to play! anywhere and everywhere.

-maybe if all of uptown and downtown was vacation rentals, the rest of nola will see restoration
the east, lower 9, All of mid city , gentilly (where i grew up) gertown, holly groove, zion city
hoffman triangle, central city... there is blight everywhere and people are saying there are no
affordable areas?

please do the right thing for nola and not for the nimby newcomers and allow vacation rentals
full time in our city.

My name is Mya, and I live in the south 7th Ward. I can't count how many friends and neighbors
in my life and in this community who's lives have been affected negatively by illegal short term
rentals such as Air BnB. These rentals are already growing at an explosive rate, as much as 48
percent between June 2015 and February 2016. No neighborhood is immune from this threat, but
historic neighborhoods are particularly at risk, and a well-known AirBnB investor recently
purchased a house for $ 1.2 million on Audubon Street, apparently intending to rent it out on a
short term basis. The Administration claims it needs to legalize these rentals so that it can better
deal with the “bad apples” – the bachelor parties, late night shouting matches, etc. – but even if
the City succeeds at that, it wouldn’t address the major question: are we going to displace
thousands of long-time residents for tourists, driving the cost of buying or renting homes and
apartments in New Orleans higher and higher, and leaving many existing residents without real
neighbors. Other cities, such as Seattle, have recognized that speculators are “shifting hundreds
of homes from the long-term residential market to short-term rental platforms like Airbnb, and in
doing so dangerously reduce our housing supply,” and have moved to stop or limit the practice.
Don't let tourism and short term rentals do to New Orleans what they did to Venice, where, in
three decades, soaring property values have reduced the population from 120,000 to 55,000.

Please take this into consideration.

I am a Physician and have lived in New Orleans all my life. I am noticing the severe deterioration in our
neighborhood due to short term rentals..loud noise and partying all night, severe parking shortage as
more than ten people crown into one house, sometimes driving 6 to 7 different cars. This is an absurd
way to evolve and divide up a city. We are rapidly going to the point where no citizen can live in our
neighborhoods. The citizens who live here are your steady tax base, not the occasional tourist.

Please stop rentals of properties in neighborhoods on a short term basis.
