Introduction
Internet of everything or internet of things on itself could be approached from many angles.
Considering the internet of thing as an extensive network of connected things,it can be com-
puting devices, digital entities, mechanical machines, objects, or even people, having the abil-
ity to collect and exchange data over a network without needing a human interaction. While
internet of everything, include a human compound. When a network is considered, it implies
an infrastructure which consumes energy. Therefore, this critical aspect linked to energy has
to be considered at the system level.
Managing power for the Internet of Everything (IoE) is a challenging task because the
devices must always be powered up and can be located anywhere, including harsh, remote
environments. It is often impossible to run a wire to a device. CMOS technology is at the heart
of many recent developments in the design of integrated circuits. Moore’s Law has served
as the guiding principle for the semiconductor industry for several years. This trend is still
moving forward as the state-of-the-art sub-nm scaled CMOS technologies, for applications
ranging from high-performance computing down to ultra-low- power mobile applications are
developing. Circuit and system designers all around the globe are leveraging the large device
density and processing power of modern technology toward new applications for more smart
and interconnected world.
This book targets post-graduate students and engineers working in the industry, willing
to understand and connect system design with the system on chip (SoC) and mixed-signal
design as abroader set of circuits and systems. The feld of IoT, spanning from data converters
for sensor interfaces to radio and software applications, is covered with emphasis on power
and energy management. This book tries to target a right balance between academia and
industrial contributions.
Several advanced topics in the area of Power Management, Analog and Mixed-Signal Cir-
cuits and Systems are explored by reviewing in this book their fundamental principles. The frst
chapter is linked to the personalized medicine domain by covering bio-sensors co-integration
with nano-technology and CMOS circuits. Having seen power assets and challenges of such
a technology for the circuit and system designer, the remote powering and some sensors
solutions are reviewed in the second chapter. The third chapter covers a frst industrial contri-
bution dedicated tothe remote powering of a wireless sensor network through the RF feld.
The concept of very low current consumption (in the order of µA or nA)and their transient
behavior are also covered in this third chapter. The fourth chapter is dedicated to the measure-
ment and the analysis of dynamic current profles for low power consumption. The digital and
large-scale integrated circuits are covered by an academic contribution in chapter fve and by
an industrial contribution in chapter seven. Hall sensors dedicated to automotive applications

constitute Chapter six.Chapter eight is dedicated to the design of CMOS oscillators for timers
by considering the duty-cycling of the active mode. Finally, system-level power management
(including the cloud) are discussed in the last chapters of the book.
