Ce colloque international, Pierres levées, stèles anthropomorphes et dolmens – Aspect cultuels des IVe et IIIe millénaires au Levant et en péninsule Arabique, a réuni 25 chercheurs de toutes nationalités qui ont, au cours de leurs fouilles, de leurs prospections ou de l'étude des textes, mis au jour une documentation originale sur l'expression des cultes funéraires et publics tant au Levant que dans la péninsule Arabique. Pour la première fois des archéologues, travaillant sur des périodes anciennes et sur des zones géographiques relativement éloignées, se sont réunis pour faire le bilan des connaissances sur le sujet. Au cours de ce colloque, on a pu mettre en évidence que les pierres dressées, les statues-menhirs, les sanctuaires et les monuments funéraires sont édifiés dans des régions présentants des conditions environnementales similaires, contextes désertiques et semi-désertiques allant du Yémen à la Syrie. Cette publication met à la disposition des chercheurs un ensemble de documents inédits sur les pratiques cultuelles des périodes protohistoriques au Levant et en péninsule Arabique. This international colloquium on Standing stones, anthropomorphic stelae and dolmens – Cultic aspects of the 4th and 3rd millennia BC in the Levant and the Arabian Peninsula assembled a diverse group of twenty-five researchers who, based on data collected through their excavations, surveys or epigraphic studies, have contributed original material on the various expressions of ritual, both funerary and domestic, in the Levant and the Arabia peninsula. For the first time, archaeologists working on the ancient eras and on relatively distant geographic locations gathered to review the state of knowledge on the subject of these large stone monuments. During the colloquium, we were able to establish that standing stones, statue-menhirs, sanctuary and funerary monuments were erected in areas with similar environmental conditions, desert and semi-desert regions, stretching from Yemen to Syria. This publication provides researchers with new material on cultural practices in the protohistory of the Levant and Arabian Peninsula.
