Vannevar Bush was born in an America which
was peaceful, primarily rural, and in which the
closest thing to a miracle drug was Syrup of
Hypophosphates.
In 1970, Dr. Bush, along with Dr. James B.
Conant and Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves, was pre-
sented by President Nixon with the Atomic
Pioneers Award, a special award which will not
be bestowed again.
Between these two events lies the wealth of a
remarkable man's experience—a man who was
usually where the action was and who more
often than not precipitated it.
