Me gustaría agradecer a mis directores de tesis, el Dr. Damiá Barcelò y la Dra. Sara
Rodriguez-Mozaz, por escogerme para desarrollar esta tesis, allá a finales del 2009. Damiá, te
agradezco profundamente el apoyo incondicional que me has mostrado estos años, tu confianza en
que podría hacer cosas que ni yo misma creía posibles, y todas las oportunidades que me has dado
durante estos años para desarrollarme no solo como científica, sino también como persona. Sara, no
creo que haya palabras para describir lo mucho que ha significado para mí tenerte como codirectora
de tesis. Posiblemente porque “codirectora” no abarca todo lo que has sido y eres: jefa, amiga,
confidente, animadora, etc…Te lo he dicho en varias ocasiones, pero si hay algo que sé sin ninguna
duda es que sin ti hoy no habría tesis doctoral que presentar. Por siempre creer en mí y por ser tan
maravillosa como eres: muchísimas gracias.
A todos mis compañeros de fatigas, Laura, Elisabet y Dani, gracias por ser un oído amigo,
tanto para lo bueno como para lo malo. Allá donde estéis, cada uno esparcido por su rinconcito del

I want to thank also to Prof. John Sumpter, from Brunel University London, for taking a
chance with me and letting spend 3 months with his team to “learn some biology”. My experience in
Brunel was amazing, not only professionally but personally as well. I learnt a lot about ecotoxicology
during my conversations with Prof. Sumpter, but also from Dr. Luigi Margiotta-Casaluci. Luigi: thank
you for your invaluable help during those three months, and to this day, that have made possible to
finally complete this thesis. And to all the people in Brunel (Liz, Tara, Rachel, Tamsin, Graham,
Alpa, Chris, Alice, Lourdes), thank you for your help and encouragement during the writing process.
It has been a long journey, but we are finally here and it is thank to all of you. I specially would like to
thank Dr. Mark Scrimshaw and Dra. Svetlana Ignatova for their patience and unwavering support they
showed during the last year while I finished writing up.
Finalmente me gustaría agradecer profundamente el apoyo, compresión y paciencia de mi
familia. Gracias por siempre darme la libertad de hacer aquello que deseaba, sin importar cuán lejos
me haya llevado mi camino. Sé que no siempre ha sido fácil, pero siempre habéis estado ahí y sois
todo lo que necesito para seguir adelante. A mis padres, por darme el equilibrio que necesito y
recordarme lo que es más importante en esta vida. A mi hermana, por ser mi mejor amiga en este viaje
y por darme el mejor regalo posible, mi sobrino Santi. Os quiero mucho.
