Thefieldofsupramolecularchemistryinpharmaceuticalsciencesisatanearlystage
andrapidlygrowingasvariousphysiologicalreactionsanddrugactivitiesarebased
onsupramolecularchemistry.Thesynthesisofpharmaceuticalsupramoleculespro-
vides an easy way to influence the solid-state properties of a lead molecule, espe-
cially its solubility and bioavailability. Hence, supramolecular drugs might be an
alternative to existing pharmaceutical formulations. Therefore, exciting develop-
ments,newadvancement,foundations,anddirectionforfurtherexploringsupramo-
lecular pharmaceutical drugs for their applications are necessary to provide the
currentstatusofthefield.Thisbookprovidesanoutstandingcollectionofthecurrent
researchonpharmaceuticaldrugsbasedonsupramoleculesaswellastheirversatile
applicationsandoffersanoverviewofselectedadvancesthathavetakenplaceinthe
field.
InChap.1,wehaveexploredsupramoleculesandtheirrecentdevelopmentinthe
field of pharmaceuticals. In Chap. 2, Ali and his group described the role of
non-covalent interactions in the preparation of supramolecules. They also demon-
stratedseveralbasicstrategiesusedforthesynthesisofsupramolecules.InChap.3,
Manjit and B. Mishra have discussed the development of several kinds of
supramolecules for cancer therapy in detail and their function in enhancing the
treatment outcomes. Yoshizawa has presented the effects of liquid crystallinity of
supramolecular assemblies on the antiproliferative activity against cancer cells in
Chap. 4. Panda et al. have outlined the recent progress of supramolecular systems
towardantimicrobialtherapiesandillustratedtheirkeyfeaturesaspotentantimicro-
bial drugs in Chap. 5. In Chap. 6, Mudavath and his group have revealed a highly
comprehensive look at the known and plausible mechanism of action for several
distinguished antiviraldrugs and theirimmuneresponseinthebody.Sharmaetal.
have focused on the importance of supramolecules in the evolution of anti-
inflammatory drug(s) in Chap. 7. They also described the role of supramolecules
in enhancing the efficacy of anti-inflammatory agents. In Chap. 8, Kiremit and
Tekinay have illustrated the commonest cardiovascular diseases and current treat-
mentmethods.Theyalsosummarizedthesupramoleculesthathaveevolvedaswell
as employed for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and regeneration of

cardiovasculartissues.InChap.9,MehataandMuthuhavedepictedrecentadvances
insupramolecular-basednanomedicine,mathematicalmodellingofreleasekinetics
andapproachestoovercomedrugresistanceintumourcells.GhoshandGhoshhave
revealedthefunctionofintermolecularinteractionsandresponsesofdiversestimuli
inthepeptideself-assembliesinChap.10.Theyalsodiscussedthegreatutilization
ofnanomaterials-basedpeptidesself-assembliesinbiomedicalscience.InChap.11,
Ghosh et al. demonstrated the recent developments of supramolecule-based
bioimaging.
In the final chapters (Chaps. 12 and 13), we have discussed the contribution of
supramoleculesinthedesigningofanovelvaccinewithimproveddeliverypathand
efficacyandoutlinedthechallengesandperspectivesforthedevelopmentoffuture
smartmaterialsbasedonsupramoleculesforthebettermentofhumanlife.
