En este trabajo se pretende realizar un análisis comparativo entre El libro del conde Partinuplés (siglo XV) y su antecedente románico Partonopeo de Blois (siglo XII). Para ello, se han cotejado ambos textos teniendo en cuenta la bibliografía pertinente sobre los temas abordados. De los datos obtenidos hemos seleccionado con mayor insistencia aquellos en los que la crítica anterior apenas había llamado la atención, o simplemente había dejado a un lado. Se han observado cambios relevantes en la construcción del relato, así como en el desarrollo de determinados temas, en especial la religión y la magia. Las transformaciones se explican coherentemente por sucesivas reescrituras que han posibilitado la actualización de la obra y su acomodación a unos nuevos contextos socioculturales e históricos. Todo ello permite explicar la evolución de un «roman» francés manuscrito que se ha convertido en un incunable, una de las primeras muestras hispánicas de lo que se ha venido en denominar una historia breve de caballerías.
