Una absoluta rareza. Una historia que encaja perfectamente dentro de la colección «Servicio Secreto», pues tiene una intriga de agentes y megalómano de turno, al estilo James Bond y sus némesis. Sin embargo, también existe una sub-trama de ciencia ficción, con animales marinos mutados y convertidos en gigantes. Entre esos animales hay tiburones, y de hecho se menciona la película de Spielberg, si bien, por misteriosos motivos, se evita aludirla directamente. En el lado negativo, sin embargo, cabe apuntar que es una de las novelas peor cuidadas por parte de Curtis Garland, en lo que a redacción se refiere. Los fallos de sintaxis son abundantes, y da la impresión de que esta obra la escribió más deprisa de lo que era norma en la época, pues hay errores a mansalva. No sólo un fallo característico en él como era la profusión de posesivos —algo inherente, por cierto, a muchos autores españoles, demasiado acostumbrados a leer (malas) traducciones del inglés—, sino que la construcción gramatical de muchas frases resulta terrible. Lástima, porque la simpatía y vigor de la historia hubiera incitado una obra de gran valía.
