Preface
This collective volume stems from an international conference with the title
‘Paths of Song: Interactions Between Greek Lyric and Tragedy’ that was held
at University College London UK in April 2013. The conference was organised
byMichaelCarroll,ThomasCoward,andTheodoraHadjimichaelandwasspon-
soredbytheA.G.LeventisFoundation(UCLLeventisFund),KCLClassics,theIn-
stituteofClassicalStudies,theFacultyInstituteofGraduateStudiesatUCL,and
the Gilbert Murray Trust.The conference had a truly international and welcom-
ingcharacter, andthe high quality andthought-provokingagendaprovidedthe
stimulus for enthusiastic discussions in a friendly and well-run atmosphere.
Of the twenty-one papers that were presented at the above event, thirteen
appear in this volume in revised and reworked versions, while some of the
other conference papers have already been published in other venues. We
thankAndrewFordfortakingupthetaskofwritinganAfterwordtothevolume
and EnricoEmanuele Prodi whocontributedtothisvolumewith anewchapter
differentfromthepaperthathepresentedatthe‘PathsofSong’conference.We
