Abstract Eighteenspecies of thesubfamily Passalinae, collected by the Kyoto
University Expeditions toSarawak (1989-1991), are recorded. In addjtjon, a new
Ac'eraiusspeciesisdescribedfromMt.MuluunderthenameAc・eraiushidakaisp
nov.
ThisnewspeciesresemblesA.facレt1margoZANcinhavingthemiddle-sizedbody(38.4_
39.0mm)and thelongantennal lamellae, butcan readilybe distinguished from the
latterbyhavingtheanterior lower toothoftheleftmandible dorso-ventra11ybifjdal
theapex.
More than three-hundred examples of thePassalinae (Coleoptera, Passalidae)
Werecollectedbyoneoftheauthors(K.ARAYA)andtheothermembersoftheKyoto
University Expeditions to Sarawak during 1989-1991 (the co11ectjon1ocaljtjes are
shownin Fig. 1). Nineteenspecies,oneofwhichwasnewtoscience,werecontained
in the collection. We record herewith thematerialsand describe a new A(e・laius
Species. We refer to HINcKs and DIBB (1935; 1958) for the distribution of each
species.
Inthedescriptionofthenewspecies,weadopttheterminologyofGRAVELY(1914)
anddescribebothsexestogetherbecausenosexualdimorphismisevident. The ab_
breviationsformorphometriccharactersarethesameasthoseinourpreviouspaper
(KON&JoHKI, l992).
ThepresentnewAceralusspeciesiscomparedwiththeotherseventeenspeciesof
the9enus. ThecomparedspecimensofAceralusspeciesotherthantheninespecies
recorded in thepresent study arelistedbelow. Theacronyms for thecollection of

posteriorgroove; frontal ridgeaccompanyingdistinctgrooveanteriorly;supraorbital
andsupraoccipitalridgesseparatedbysetiferoushair-bearingpunctures;parietalridge
not swelling upward in distal portion. Areas between frontal andparietal ridges,

Pronotum polished,withsetiferoushair-bearingpuncturesin lateralscarand
near bothanterior and lateralmargins; intercoxa1processofprosternum with Ion9
hairsinposterior portion. Mesosternumhairless, frostedinposteriorportion,with
distinctscar,mesothoracicepisternumfrostedandimpunctateinposterior portion,
with large punctures in bothanterior anddorsal portions. Ridgeseparating inter-
mediateandlateralareasofmetasternumdistinctalongwholelength;lateralareaand
anterior intel-mediateareadenselypunctured and hairy; posterior intermediatearea
puncturedandhairynearposteriormargin,withirregulardentsalongposteriormargin
ofcentralarea;central areaimpunctateandhairless.
Tenthribofelytrahairyinanteriorportionclosetoshoulder, impunctateand
hairlessinposteriorportion;ninthdenselypuncturedandhairyinanteriorhalf,more
sparselyinposteriorhalf;eighthimpunctateandhairlessalongwholelength;seventh

近 雅IF?'荒谷J:ill雄・常書 豐: ポルネオ, サラワク州で採集されたクロツヤムシ. 1. クロツヤ
ムシ亜科, およびムル山よりえられたオオクロツヤムシ属の1新種. - ポルネオのサラフク州への
京都大学の学術調査(1989-1991)において採集された, クロツヤムシ亜科のクロツヤムシ18種を記
録した. それに加えて, オオクロツヤムシ属の1新種, Aceraiushidakai sp nov. をムル山より記
載した. この種は, 中くらいの体長 (38.4-39.0mm) と長い触角のlamellaeをもつ点においてA.
1aeVima「90ZANGに似ているが, 左の大顎のanteriorlowertoothの先端が上下に二又状となる点
において容易に区別できる.
