points from theory of knowledge and extended essay components.
Command terms
Command terms are pre-defined words and phrases used in all IB Chemistry questions and problems. Each
command term specifies the type and depth of the response expected from you in a particular question.
For example, the command terms state, outline, explain and discuss require answers with increasingly higher
levels of detail, from a single word, short sentence or numerical value (“state”) to comprehensive analysis
(“discuss”), as shown in the next table.
