So wird der Orientexpreß zu einem Symbol für die Unrast und Krankhaftigkeit unserer Tage, und die Geschichten, die sich in ihm in einer seltsam unwirklichen Sphäre der Hast bewegen, faszinierend und tragisch, zeigen gleichsam stellvertretend alles Leid, das die brutalen Entartungen der modernen Zivilisation dem unschuldigen Menschen zufügen.
