Abstract
Kidney transplantation is a surgical procedure to remove healthy functioning kidney from aliving or
cadaver donner and inplant in to patient with end stage renal disease. The nurse has very important role
in the success of kidney transplantation, the nurse who looking after Renal Transplant patients must
have experience not only in nephrology but also in immunology. A descriptive study was conducted to
assess Nurses' Knowledge regarding post renal Transplantation Care for Patients in Ahmed Gasim
Cardiac Surgery and Renal Transplantation Center, Khartoum State, Sudan (2017). The samples size
consisted of available renal nurses (50) during the period from March to June 2017. Data was
collected using a structural questionnaire designed for the purpose of the study. The results revealed
that all of the study sample (100%) responded with correct answers regarding indications of renal
transplantation while 64% of them responded correctly regarding Contraindications of renal
transplantation. 66% of the study sample responded correctly regarding preparations for renal
transplantation patients. (94%) of them responded with correct answers (living related donor). and
61.5% responded with correct answers regarding immediate post operative assessments. (96%) of the
study sample responded with correct answers regarding warning signs regarding urine output.
Participants knowledge towards post operative drugs taken to success the transplantation was found
poor (38.5%). 79.3% of the study sample responded with correct answers regarding precautions used to
protect from potential source of infection post operatively. 68% of the study sample responded with
correct answers regarding immediate complications post kidney transplantation, but their knowledge
regarding main signs and symptoms of acute rejection seems to be poor (48%). The study concluded
that respondents' knowledge regarding different aspects of post kidney transplantation care was fair. It
is recommended that Organizing periodic educational session for nephrology health provider to
increase their knowledge, accordingly they would be able to provide an effective nephrotic patients
education and care.
