Two thousand nine has been a year of extraordinary change in , C

bility. Although it feels as if most of the world is experiencing a iv

“perfect storm” of uncertainty and chaos, this type of turbu- rsity

I am a chief nursing officer. I have been a nurse for over .1

30 years, and in my career I have seen amazing changes in the 6.8

people and the processes for delivering care. As part of my role, ] a

tional, and personal technology as well as shifts in revenue cG

Along with those evolutions (or should I say, revolutions?), l Ed

we also have witnessed a changing workforce. Today’s nurses ca

are older, come from different nations and walks of life, and n

have different levels of training. By 2020, the United States will o

need far more nurses than will be available. Although we are in

working to educate nurses as quickly as possible, we also need s, L
