Introduction
Up to the present s,tudies of the number of individual sby the line-trans esucrtvey method
has produced many reports on butterfii ee.s g,. Shijimiaeoid edisvinus asonis (Matsumura)
(Mura teat al., 1998), Atrophaneetra alcinoets (Klug )(Kato ,2001), Arg.vJuts h.iverbicts
(Linnae u(sI)t o2,001), but few on moths.
Amata fort" nfeoirtun e(iOrza i)s a small day-fiyin gmoth belongin gto the Arctiidae,
Syntominae . The larv afeeds on many kinds of leave ssuch as 7)'ijbli ureipnens L.,
71xraxacum spp., Equisetum arvense L, (Hatto r1i9,65) and 71ypha angustijblict L. (Kudo,
1986). It is known that they are capable of eating dead leaves ,The firstgenerat iapopnears
from early June to the middle of July and the second generatio ins fbund from the middle of
August to the middle of September in the rlbkai region. The imago flie sslowly in grassy
places ,I had the opportunity te count the number of flyin gindividual sfrom 2004 to 2005
and recorded the date together with the meteorological conditions,
Materials and methods
The investigat iaorena is along the lef tbank of the Itonuk iRiver embankment in Mizuho
City ,Gifu Prefectur eI,t has field sof persimmons and other loca lspecialty produce in the
vicinity. There is a walking path ,and a stretch ef about two kilometers was designated an
investigat isiotne, where herbaceou splant ssuch as Satari aviridis Beauv., Sogidago altissima
L., 71ifzzxacu mspp., Rt{mex y'aponic uHsoutt., Boehmeria longispic Sateud. L,ycoris radiata
Herb,, S,ici aangetstijblia L, were seen. The investigatio nwas carried out from 6: 30 to 7: 30
AM. While I walked slowly through the investigatio nsite, I counted the number of flying
individual swhich appeared within a range of about 10 m, Moreover ,I recorded the weathcr
conditions, temperature, humidity and illuminati boenfore and after the investigation.

The number of tota lindividual swas 79 in 2004 and 209 in 2005 in the firs gteneratio annd
209 in 2004 and 176 in 2005 in the second generatio (nFig 1sA-D).
Many imagines were flyin gin cloudy weather, and few in rain, However, some flying indi-
viduals were found on days of ligh tdrizzl aend a few on days of heavy rain. Numbers ob-

Discussion
The appearance of Amata／brtuneiプ∂rtunei （Orza）imagines continued fbr about one month
and the number of Hying individua lwass differen tin each generatioユlin the 1wo years， It
was concluded that the moth did not like direc tsunshine because the number of lndividuals
witnessed was greater during cloudy and rainy weather than during fin eweatheL The
imago avoided strong light and preferre wdeak light conditions ． It appcared that the imago
preferred temperature cQnditions around 23°C．

調べ た．成虫は曇天時に最 も多く飛翔し，続い て雨天時に多く飛翔してい た．ただし，強い 雨の 日は，
