Uptothepresent,twospeciesofthegenusCeracupesKAUP(ColeOPte「a,PaSSali-
dae),c frontjcornls(WESTWOOD)andC.chingkiniOKANo,havebeenrecordedf「om
Vjetnam(HINcKs&DIBB,1935;KoN&JoHKI,1995).WhenWeexaminedaSe「ieSof
specmj ensofpassalidaefromMt.Tamdao,Vietnam,wefoundonemaleSpecimenof
carrowjHELLERamongthem.ThisisthefirstrecordofthisspeciesfromVietnam.

notsodivergentdistally;ventralsurfaceofcentraltubercleconcaveeveninanterior
portionclosetoapex;lowermarginofcentraltuberclewithoutdistinct tuberclenear
baseinlateralview.Anteriorintermediateandlateralareasofmetasternumpunctured
andhairy.
Penisrounded,sclerotizedandfinely rugoseonventral side, lesssclerotizedon
dorsalside,withorificeat thecenterofdorsalside. Tegmenconsistingofonepiece,
withlateralmarginconcaveinventralview.

Discussion
ARAYAet a1. (1997) reviewedtheknownmicrohabitatsof themembersof the
genusCeracupes,whichareclassifiedintotwotypes,i.e., l) inthedetritusamongthe
rhizomesofepiphytic fernsand2) inthedetritus-likewoodsubstanceaccumulatedin
treetrunksorlogs.KABAKov(l967)reportedthatCeracupesfrontlcornls(WESTWOOD)
livesinepiphyticfernsinVietnam.However,ARAYAeta1.(1997)collectedthisspecies
fromthedetritusaccumulatedinadeadstumpinThailand,andsuggestedthateither
C frontzcornlshasgeographicvariationinitsmicrohabitats,or it isfacultativetolive
inbothtypesofmicrohabitats.BasedonthepresentnewrecordofC arrow1HELLER
fromVietnam,wewouldliketosuggestanotherpotentialsolutiontothispuzzle.We
suspectthatKABAKov's(1967)speciesidentificationwasincorrectandtheVietnamese
speciesobservedbyhimwasnotC fronticornisbutCarrow1.Thephotographicevi-
denceoftheCeracupesspeciespresentedbyKABAKov(1967)appearstodisplaythe
diagnosticcharacterofCarrow1;namely,theuppertoothofthemandibleisdistinctly
longerthanthecentraltubercleindorsalview.Ceracupesarr,owihasbeenknownto
liveincoloniesinthedetritusamongtherhizomesofepiphyticfernsinTaiwan(JoHKl
&KoN,1987,1989).Therefore,itseemsreasonabletosupposethattheVietnameseC
arrow1mayinhabitamicrohabitatsimilarlytoitsTaiwanesecounterpart.
