George H. Ryan
Secretary of State
We are pleased to serve you
Dear Senior:
Effective September 1, 1991, the
Regional Transit Authority (RTA),
which operates CTA, Pace and Metra
services, will no longer accept its cur¬
rent card issued in conjunction with
its reduced fare program. In order to apply for a
reduced fare pass, seniors will be required to pro¬
vide one of the following: a valid Illinois identifica¬
tion card, drivers license, passport, U.S. immigra¬
tion alien registration card, or a verification letter
from the Social Security Administration.
I understand the extreme importance seniors
place on mass transit to meet their transportation
needs and how important reduced fares are to
tight budgets.
To assist you in meeting the new identification
requirements, special facilities will be open through¬
out Chicago to provide no-fee ID cards to seniors
age 65 and older. In addition, four Chicago driver
services facilities will have special hours exclusively
for no-fee ID cards for seniors age 65 and older.
I hope you will take advantage of this impor¬
tant program. If you have questions or concerns,
please do not hesitate to call my toll-free seniors
hotline at 1-800-252-2904 (TDD).
Sincerely,
George H. Ryan
Secretary of State
