Newspeciesand newcombinationsinRhysolepis

Abstract.—AnarrowcircumscriptionofthegenusViguieraKunthresultsin
transferof58 speciesofHelianthinaewithglabrous stamenfilaments,exap-
pendiculate style appendages, and a persistent pappus into Rhysolepis
S.F.Blake.RhysolepisdillonorumfromPeru,R.emaciatafromBolivia,andR.
goyasensis, R. hatschbachii, R. laxicymosa, R. santacatarinensis, andR. sub-
truncatafromBrazil are new species. Viguierapazensisand V.procumbens
areplacedinsynonymyunderRhysolepishelianthoides,andV.misionensisis
combinedwithR.pilosa.
The present studybegan with aproject tocarpusS.F.Blake(1916)withaglabrous
bythejuniorauthortoclarifythelimitsof stripjust inside the lateral margins ofits
twoAndean species ofViguiera Kunthin achenesthatwasmisinterpretedasawing;
H.B.K.andjoininthedescriptionofaspe- and Rhysolepis S. F Blake (1917) with
