ity, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He has conducted funded research
projectsondevelopment-ledtourismentrepreneurship,digitalentrepreneurshipand
women entrepreneurship in Africa. His research has been published in Annals of
TourismResearch,TourismManagement,JournalofSmallBusinessManagement,
Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development, Strategic Change and
Energy Policy. He is the subject matter expert in International Entrepreneurship
and Marketing for the Academy of International Business (Sub-Saharan Africa

OgechiAdeola isanAssociateProfessorofMarketingandtheHeadoftheDepart-
ment of Operations, Marketing and Information Systems at the Lagos Business
School, Pan-Atlantic University, Nigeria. Her research interests include tourism
andhospitality,womenentrepreneurship,strategicmarketing,anddigitalmarketing
strategies in sub-Saharan Africa. She has published academic books and papers in
top scholarly journals including Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Business
Research, Industrial Marketing Management, International Marketing Review,
Tourism Economics, and Tourism Recreation Research. Her co-authored articles
won Best Paper Awards at international conferences in 2016–2019, consecutively.

of Postgraduate Research in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management,
UniversityofSurrey,Guildford,UK.HeisalsoaSeniorResearchAssociateatthe
School of Tourism and Hospitality, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He
holdsaPh.D.inTourismfromNottinghamTrentUniversitywherehealsoworked
as a Lecturer, before joining the University of Surrey. Albert’s research on

developmententrepreneurship,womenandinclusivedevelopmentinhospitalityand
tourismhasbeenpublishedintheleadingtourismandmanagementjournalssuchas

Robert E. Hinson is the Head of Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship
and Acting Dean at the University of Ghana Business School. He is a Visiting
Professor at the University of Free State Business School, Bloemfontein,
SouthAfrica.HehasalsoservedasRectorofthePerezUniversityCollege,aprivate
UniversityinAccra,Ghana.HeholdstwoPhDsinMarketingfromtheUniversityof
Ghana and in International Business from Aalborg University in Denmark. He has
taught in North America, Australia, Asia, Europe and in several African countries.
His research has been published in Journal of Business Research, The Service
Industries Journal, Tourism Management Perspectives, International Journal of
Contemporary Hospitality Management, Corporate Governance, International
Journal of Market Research, Journal of Relationship Marketing and Thunderbird
International Business Review. He is a Non-Executive Director at Camelot Com-

1 Introduction
Hospitalityandtourism(H&T)havebeencomponentsofAfricanpoliticaleconomy
and socio-cultural life for several centuries. Despite demographic and sociological
peculiaritieswithinAfrica,theconsiderablegrowth intheH&T sectors since 2000
hasmadeAfricatobecomeavitalpartoftheglobaltourismeconomy.Thishasbeen
fuelled by several factors, including its rich and diverse tourism products, increas-
ingly business friendly government policies, changing the global perception of
Africa as a tourist destination, ICTs and digitization and the development of com-
mercialandsocialH&TrelatedenterprisesinAfrica.Thisisthefirstbookofitskind
to provide a management perspective to the full historical, contemporary and
