Preface
The 2014 Joint Applied Statistics Symposium of the InternationalChinese Statis-
ticalAssociation and the KoreanInternationalStatistical Society was successfully
held from June 15 to June 18, 2014, at the Marriott Downtown WaterfrontHotel,
Portland,Oregon,USA.Itwasthe23rdannualAppliedStatisticsSymposiumofthe
ICSAandthefirstoftheKISS.Over400participantsattendedtheconferencefrom
academia, industry, and government agencies around the world including North
America,Asia,andEurope.Theconferenceofferedthreekeynotespeeches,seven
shortcourses,76scientificsessions,studentpapersessions,andsocialevents.
The 11 papers in this volume were selected from the presentations in the
conference. They cover new methodology and application for clinical research
and information technology, including model development, model checking, and
innovative clinical trial design and analysis. All papers have gone through peer-
review process of at least two referees and an editor. We believe they provide
invaluableadditiontothestatisticalcommunity.
We wouldliketothanktheauthorsfortheircontributionandtheirpatienceand
dedication.
