MYCORRHIZAE

Mycorrhiza is a term coined to describe the
interaction of soil fungi and plant roots.

Over time these soil fungi evolved the
symbiotic association with plant roots.

Both plants and fungi gain chemical, physical,
biological, and physiological benefits.

Manage this association showed an increase
in agriculture and natural plant growth.

400 - 500 MYA

Fossils plants contain mycorrhizal fungi

Proteaceae is the only nonmycorrhizal
woody plant.

Brassicaceae is the only nonmycorrhizal
annual plants.

Mycorrhiza is now the bridge between
science and business.

Large companies (21 in North America, 8
in Europe, 2 in Asia, and 2 in South
America) now dealing with mycorrhizae.

Mycorrhiza is essential for organic
farming ($ 33 billion value in 2005)
