Artificial intelligence has become a popular research field with wide applications.
Inindustrial,engineering,andotherapplications,artificialintelligenceisappliedtocon-
struct intelligent systems for solving real-world problems.Based on the development
of artificial intelligence methods, modern intelligent systems have played an impor-
tantroleinmanyareas,includingscience,industry,engineering,automation,robotics,
business,finance,medicine,andcyberspace.Meanwhile,agreatnumberofintelligent
systems,fromprototypestoreal-worldtools,areproposedtocopewithnewproblems.
Intelligentsystemsprovidea platformto connecttheresearchin artificialintelligence
toreal-worldproblemsolvingapplications.
In solving real world problems, intelligent systems and tools employ many tech-
niques from areas such as machine learning, data mining, social networks analysis,
naturallanguageprocessing,andcognitivecomputing.Variousintelligentsystemshave
beendevelopedtofacereal-worldapplications.Intelligenthealthcaresystems,decision
makingsystems,design,planning,andschedulingsystems,andhuman-computerinter-
actionsystemsarejustafewexamples.Themodernadvancesinintelligentsystemsand
toolspresentresearchresultsinareaswhichrepresentthefrontiersofappliedartificial
intelligence.
This book is published in the “Studies in Computational Intelligence” series by
Springer-Verlag.Itdiscussesthemodernadvancesinintelligentsystemsandthetools
inappliedartificialintelligence.Itconsistsoftwenty-threechaptersauthoredbypartici-
pantsofthe25thInternationalConferenceonIndustrial,Engineering&OtherApplica-
tionsofAppliedIntelligentSystems(IEA/AIE2012)whichwasheldinDalian,China.
TheconferencefollowedtheIEA/AIEtraditionofprovidinganinternationalscientific
forumforresearchersinthediversefieldsofappliedintelligence.Theconferencewas
organizedbySchoolofSoftware,DalianUniversityofTechnologyandwassponsored
bytheInternationalSocietyofAppliedIntelligence(ISAI).
Thebookis dividedintosix parts,includingAppliedIntelligence,CognitiveCom-
putingandAffectiveComputing,DataMiningandIntelligentSystems,DecisionSup-
portSystems,MachineLearning,andNaturalLanguageProcessing.Eachpartincludes
three to five chapters. In these chapters, many approaches, applications, restrictions,
anddiscussionsare presented.The materialofeach chapteris self-containedandwas

reviewedbyatleasttwoanonymousrefereestoassurethehighquality.Readerscanse-
lectanyindividualchapterbasedontheirresearchinterestswithouttheneedofreading

A Non-Contact Health Monitoring System Based
on the Internet of Things and Evidential Reasoning

Abstract. With the development of science and technology, the Internet of
things has become a hot spot and is used in various fields. In this paper, a new
model which is called A Non-contact Health Monitoring System Based on the
Internet of Things and evidential reasoning is proposed to assist practitioners in
the assessment of patents’ security. The processing methods used in the
monitoring system are Analytical Hierarchy Process and Dempster–Shafer
theory. The System brought a great of convenience to the families and also
provided a healthy guarantee for users.

1 Introduction
As the trends of the average life expectancy, the decline of the birth rate and health-
oriented are increasingly clear, people demand better health care system. As a result,
realizations of a non-contact health monitoring system (NCHMS) become more vital
and urgent. And the Internet of Things technology will be the best means of its imple-
mentations. The Internet of Things not only provides the health care system for aspects
of technical support, but also will solve the core problems--collecting and processing
the remote medical information. The system refers to an information system that can
remotely monitor the user's physical condition and physiological parameters. In this
paper, a remote health care program design based on the Internet of Things is provided
and it can improve intelligence of information collection and process, which will pro-
mote applications of the Internet of Things in the medical industry.
In this paper, Section 2 begins with a detail introduction to the Non-contact Health
Monitoring System based on the Internet of Things. Then, Section 3 introduced the
procedure of the proposed model for evaluating the patients’ status risk. Section 4
concludes the paper.
2 The Non-Contact Health Monitoring System (NCHMS)
The idea of this paper stems from the concept of Interne of Things. When the concept of
Internet of things is introduced to the smart home, its scope has been expanded more,
