Industrial, Engineering and Other Applications of Applied Intelligent Systems
(IEA-AIE 2014), it is our pleasure to present the proceedings of the conference.
IEA-AIE2014washostedbytheNationalKaohsiungUniversityofAppliedSci-
ences,Taiwan,ChaoyangUniversityofTechnology,Taiwan,andHarbinInstitute
of Technology University, China. IEA/AIE 2014 continued the tradition of em-
phasizing applications of applied intelligent systems to solve real-life problems
in all areas including engineering, science, industry, automation and robotics,
businessandfinance,medicineandbiomedicine,bioinformatics,cyberspace,and
human–machineinteractions.IEA/AIE2014includedoralpresentations,invited
speakers, special sessions, and a computer vision competition.
We receive 294 submissions from 27 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Eu-
rope,NorthAmerica,andSouthAmerica.Duetothepagelimit,only106papers
were accepted and are published in the proceedings. Each paper was reviewed
byatleasttworeviewers.Thereviewersaremainlyresearchersfromuniversities
andindustry.Wecongratulateandthankalltheauthorsoftheacceptedpapers.
In addition to the paper presentations, four plenary talks were kindly delivered
by Prof. John Roddick from Flinders University, Australia, Prof. Ce Zhu, Uni-
versity of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Prof. Daniel S. Yeung,
South China University of Technology, China, and President Han-Chien Chao,
Ilan University, Taiwan. We hope that these high-quality and valuable keynotes
are beneficial for your future research.
Finally, we sincerely appreciate the contribution of the authors, reviewers,
and keynote speakers. We would also like to express our sincere appreciation
