During 1997—2002, 105 samples ofmites were collected from 34 nests ofthe
white-tailed sea eagle in Poland. The material included 9,724 specimens of
Mesostigmatabelonging to 86 species. Themite communities were dominated
by species ofthe families Parasitidae, Macrochelidae and Ascidae. The most
abundant species wereAlliplzis balleri, Androlaelaps casalis, Parasitusfime—
torumandMacrochelesmerdariusthataltogethermadeup48%ofallthespeci-
menscollected.AlliplzishalleriandAndrolaelapscasaliswerealsothetwomost
frequentlyfoundmites.Asummaryispresentedonthebiologyanddistribution
oftheabundantspecies.
