Preface
This volume contains the papers presented at MIKE 2018: the 6th International Con-
ference on Mining Intelligence and Knowledge Exploration held during December
20–22, 2018, at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Cluj-Napoca, Romania
(http://www.mike.org.in/2018/). We received 93 qualified submissions from 29
countriesandeachqualifiedsubmissionwasreviewedbyaminimumofthreeProgram
Committee members using the criteria of relevance, originality, technical quality, and
presentation. A rigorous review process with the help of the distinguished Program
Committee led to the acceptance of 33 of these submissions for presentation at the
conference. Hence, the overall acceptance rate for this edition of MIKE is 35.48%.
The International Conference on Mining Intelligence and Knowledge Exploration
(MIKE) is an initiative focusing on research and applications on various topics of
humanintelligenceminingandknowledgediscovery.Humanintelligencehasevolved
steadily over several generations, and today human expertise excels in multiple
domains and in knowledge-acquiring artifacts. The primary goal was to focus on the
frontiersofhumanintelligenceminingtowardbuildingabodyofknowledgeinthiskey
domain. The focus was also to presentstate-of-the-art scientific results, todisseminate
moderntechnologies,andtopromotecollaborativeresearchinminingintelligenceand
knowledgeexploration.AtMIKE2018,aspecificfocuswasplacedonthe“learningto
explore smart and intelligent systems.”
MIKE 2018 identified ten tracks topic wise, each led by two to three track coordi-
natorstocontributeandalsotohandlesubmissionsfallingintheirareasofinterest.The
involmentfromeachofthemalongwiththesupervisionoftheProgramChairsensured
the selection of quality papers for the conference. Each track coordinator took
responsibility to fulfil the tasks assigned to them since the first call for papers was
circulated.Thisisreflectedinthequalityofeverypaperappearingintheseproceedings.
The accepted papers were chosen on the basis of research excellence, which pro-
vides a body of literature for researchers involved in exploring, developing, and val-
idating learning algorithms and knowledge-discovery techniques. Accepted papers
were grouped into various subtopics including evolutionary computation, knowledge
exploration in IoT, artificial intelligence, machine learning, image processing, pattern
recognition, speech processing, information retrieval, natural language processing,
social network analysis, security, fuzzy rough sets, and other areas. Researchers pre-
sentedtheirworkandhadanexcellent opportunitytointeractwith eminent professors
and scholars in their area of research. All participants benefitted from discussions that
facilitated the emergence of new ideas and approaches.
