On a rare sunny day during the spring of 1999 a tour of
Seattle architecture led me and Jan Cigliano of Princeton
Architectural Press down a winding, wooded road on Mercer
Island to the Michaels/Sisson residence designed by
Miller/Hull. As Amy Michaels enthusiastically showed us
through her house, the idea for this book was born. Thanks
to Jan for her early support of this project, friendly encour-
agement, and keen guidance.
