<p>Nell’autunno del 1497 Michelangelo aveva appena terminato a Roma il Bacco con satiro, prima scultura moderna dedicata a Dioniso: dio di forma umana, morto e risorto secondo i miti dei greci e dei romani. Fu allora che il cardinale Jean Bilhères de Lagraulas chiese a Michelangelo di scolpire “una Vergine Maria vestita con Cristo morto, nudo in braccio” per abbellire l’antica rotonda di Santa Petronilla. Un salto di tema vertiginoso dalla mitologia pagana all’iconografia cristiana. In un anno appena, tra il 1498 e il 1499, Michelangelo vinse ‘la natura’ e si avvicinШ a Dio, cavando dal marmo la Pietà. Come scrisse Giorgio Vasari nel 1568: “certo è un miracolo che un sasso, da principio senza forma nessuna, si sia mai ridotto a quella perfezione, che la natura a fatica suol formar nella carne”.<br /> Gli studi sull’arte di Michelangelo hanno poco affrontato i rapporti tra l’artista e i suoi committenti, per mettere in primo piano il fulgore geniale del maestro fiorentino.<br /> Sergio Risaliti e Francesco Vossilla affrontano invece la Pietà vaticana – opera tra le più ammirate di Michelangelo, già considerata nel Cinquecento uno dei vertici della statuaria di ogni tempo – concentrandosi in particolar modo sulla figura di Jean Bilhères de Lagraulas.<br /></p></br>
