Cuando intentaron quitárselo, se abalanzó sobre ellos y tuvieron que reducirlo. Llegó al hospital con algunas magulladuras y visiblemente excitado, y solo acertaba a decir que venía de muy lejos y que tenía que comunicar a la humanidad todo lo que la amenazaba. Diagnosticado de esquizofrenia paranoide, Elmer permaneció ingresado durante varios años hasta que el Dr. Granfoo descubrió un aparato, recientemente lanzado al mercado, que parecía ser capaz de leer el disco azul de aquel enfermo que tanto le intrigaba. Y aunque en un principio, sólo deseaba conocer la enfermedad que padecía y el modo en que había creado aquella fábula en su mente paranoica, la inmersión en el relato que el disco azul contiene, le hace descubrir, junto a su mujer Marta, cómo el viejo llegó allí. Ambos irán desgranando una narración misteriosa hasta llegar a un final aterrador.
