Acknowledgements
So many people have contributed personally or professionally to this thesis that it
is difficult to thank them all. However, I want to express my gratitude to my
supervisor, Professor Anders Piltz, whose encouragement and insightful
annotations were of crucial importance for the completion of the investigation.
Secondly, I am grateful to my assistant supervisor, Professor Anders Palm, whose
extensive knowledge of metaphor theory proved invaluable. Professor Arne

My fiancé May Ye Wang put up with a monomaniac in the last stage of the
