The22ndInternationalConferenceandSchoolforYoungScientists“MathematicalMod-
elingandSupercomputerTechnologies”(MMST2022)washeldduringNovember14–
17,2022,inNizhniNovgorod,Russia.Theconferenceandschoolwereorganizedbythe
MathematicalCenter“MathematicsofFutureTechnologies”andtheResearchandEdu-
cational Center for Supercomputer Technologies of the Lobachevsky State University
ofNizhniNovgorod.MMST2022wasorganizedinpartnershipwiththeInternational
Congress“RussianSupercomputingDays”.
The topics of the conference and school cover a wide range of problems of math-
ematical modeling of complex processes and numerical methods of research, as well
asnewmethodsofsupercomputingaimedtosolvestate-of-the-artproblemsinvarious
fieldsofscience,industry,business,andeducation.
This edition of the MMST conference was dedicated to Professor Victor Gergel,
who passed away in 2021. Victor Gergel chaired the Program Committee of the con-
ferencefrom2001to2020andwasabrilliantscholarandinnovator.Sincehisstudent
yearshehaddevelopedmathematicalmodels,methods,andsoftwaresystemstosolve
globalandmulti-criteriaoptimization,patternrecognition,andclassificationproblems.
Startingfromtheearly2000s,ProfessorGergelbecameinvolvedintheworld’srapidly
developing area of parallel computing, where he achieved a great deal of success and
internationalrecognition.HeledoneofRussia’sfirstresearchandeducationcentersfor
supercomputingtechnologiesattheLobachevskyStateUniversityofNizhniNovgorod,
whichbecame partof thenational supercomputing research andtraining system.Pro-
fessorGergelwasamemberofProgramCommittees,gaveplenaryspeechesatmajor
conferencesonsupercomputinginRussiaandworldwide,andcontributedtomanyexpert
groupsonthesubject.Hispioneeringideasinthefieldofprogrammingeducationhave
played a significant role in the training of software professionals at the Lobachevsky
StateUniversityofNizhniNovgorod.Theeducationalpackagesandtextbooksonparal-
lelprogrammingdevelopedbyProfessorGergelandhisco-authorsareusedthroughout
Russia.
