Und so wird's auch gemacht, natürlich gesponsert und mit Werbung versehen. Nach der glücklichen Landung erkunden die Teilnehmer, allen voran die Männer Bass und Jeffries, die Landschaft. Vor allem ein riesiger Canyon hat es ihnen angetan. Zwar geht ihnen fast der Treibstoff aus, und auch Marsbeben bedrohen ihr Leben, dennoch gelingt es ihnen, einen Beweis für extraterrestrisches intelligentes Leben zu finden, eine Art Tesserakt-Kuppel wie bei Robert Heinlein "And he built a crooked house"). Allerdings wird den irdischen Auftraggebern, die ja nur auf Einschaltquoten aus sind, dieser eminent wichtige Fund verschwiegen. Man hat seine liebe Not, wieder vom Planeten abzuheben.
