Hello, I'm Dan Eitreim and I've been shooting photographs professionally
for over 20 years.
Getting stunning images is almost automatic for me now...but it wasn't
always like that! I remember struggling to figure out what all the buttons
and dials on my camera were for, and I remember the frustration of not
being able to shoot the type of images I knew I could produce.
I think I own just about every photo technique book available and believe
me...there is a lot of misinformation and downright useless information out
there.
Most photo books are written - not to really teach you anything new, but to
show off the photographers photographs! In this series of e-books, I've tried
my best to avoid that pitfall. While there are a lot of my own photos in here,
there are also a lot of stock photos. The idea is to use the photos to
demonstrate a point, not to show off my work.
I've developed a simple, systematic approach that ANYONE can easily
master and start shooting better photos – TODAY!

Introduction
Macro vs. Close-up Photography:
When talking about shooting tiny stuff… we hear the terms; “Macro Photography” and “Close-
up Photography” bandied about. What’s the difference? Is there a difference? Aren’t they pretty
much the same thing?
Nope. They aren’t the same thing. Macro photography is when a subject is shot at a ratio of 1:1
or greater and close-up photography is when a subject is shot at a lesser ratio.
Okay… so what does that mean?
The terms were coined in the olden days of film. So for example, if a subject was photographed
using 35 mm film and the result produced a 35 mm negative showing the subject at its full size -
that is a 1 to 1 ratio. Note: I’m talking about the actual size of the object on the negative, not the
size once it is printed.
