Dominion Blue, Vancouver BC, on a Xerox Docutech 135 Printer. Printing stock is
80/b Hammermill Regalia Pearl vellumfinish paper. Binding is by Rasmussen Bindery
o f North Vancouver BC using a fan double method o f perfect binding.
Adobe Caslon, the typeface used in this book, is modeled on metal types cut in the London
foundry o f William Caslon, who released his first typefaces in 1722. A superb craftsman
and talented artist, Caslon created “the cornerstone o f English type design” with his sim­
ple, clear m asteful typefaces, which became popular throughout Europe and were par­
ticularly favoured in the American Colonies. Benjamin Franklin used hardly any other
typeface. Thefirst printings o f the American Declaration o f Independence and the Con­
stitution were set in Caslon. It is fittin g that a typeface with these origins has been
chosen to tell the story o f fam ilies with roots in the British Isles and New England (Ref­
erence: the Adobe Type Foundry).
