Ils se retrouvent à Londres, où Victor entend poursuivre ses expériences sur l’électricité et – pourquoi pas ? – réinsuffler la vie à un mort. Grâce aux théories de Galvani, à un matériel impressionnant et aux cadavres bien frais fournis par l’abominable secte des « résurrectionnistes », il n’y réussit que trop bien… Commence alors, dans une atmosphère pesante et embrumée, l’infernale poursuite : unis par un pacte impossible, créateur et créature se pourchassent. Les énergies en présence, « galvaniques » ou intellectuelles, s’emballent, confirmant la théorie de Mary Shelley, selon laquelle l’homme, quoique conscient de courir à sa perte, ne manque pourtant pas d’y courir.
