Настоящая работа является частью учебника A Four-Year Course of
English for Russian(-and German)-Speaking Learners этого же автора. Дан-
ная часть является материалом для работы по аспекту, который принято
называть «домашним чтением» и включает в себя разработки по десяти
произведениям (в основном) английских авторов.
Трудно переоценить значение чтения в процессе обучения иностран-
ным языкам, как и в более глобальном процессе – процессе развития
личности обучающихся.
Данная работа предполагает развитие таких видов речевой деятель-
ности, как чтение, говорение, письмо и способствует интенсификации
процесса обучения, т.к. имеет целью коммуникативную его направлен-
ность, основанную на знаниях, умениях и навыках, приобретенных на за-
нятиях по практике устной и письменной речи. Немаловажной задачей
является также расширение словарного запаса студентов факультетов
иностранных языков.
Отбор материала (наряду с другими критериями) проводился по при-
нципу постепенного нарастания трудностей. Первые три разработки со-
ставлены по произведениям, адаптированным для эффективного усвое-
ния на том или ином этапе обучения, а также с учетом лекси ко-грам ма-
тического материала, пройденного на занятиях по практике устной и
письменной речи.
Основной целью, однако, продолжает оставаться активизация рече-
мыслительной деятельности студентов, а потому большое внимание
уделяется обсуждению проблем, поднятых авторами предложенных
произведений, а не механическому пересказу текста. Бóльшая доступ-
ность художественной литературы в библиотеках облегчила бы задачу
автору данной работы и позволила бы сделать выбор материала более
интересным.
