Zusammenfassung
Gro(cid:25)(cid:13)(cid:127)achige R(cid:127)ontgen-Himmelsdurchmusterungen sind von gro(cid:25)er Bedeutung fu(cid:127)r die
Bestimmung gro(cid:25)skaliger Strukturen im Universum. Aktuelle wissenschaftliche Er-
kenntnisse u(cid:127)ber diese Strukturen k(cid:127)onnen mit Hilfe von aktiven galaktischen Kernen
(engl. \active galactic nuclei", AGN) einerseits durch die Durchfu(cid:127)hrung von gr(cid:127)o(cid:25)eren
und tieferen R(cid:127)ontgen-Beobachtungen und andererseits durch die Untersuchung der
Intensit(cid:127)ats(cid:13)uktuationen (engl. \surface brightness (cid:13)uctuations") der unaufgel(cid:127)osten
kosmischen R(cid:127)ontgenhintergrundstrahlung (engl. \cosmic X-ray background", CXB)
verbessert werden.
In dem ersten Teil der vorliegenden Dissertation haben wir den m(cid:127)oglichen wis-
senschaftlichen Erkenntnisgewinn durch die Untersuchung der gro(cid:25)skaligen Struk-
turen unter der Verwendung von allen detektierbaren AGN in der zuku(cid:127)nftigen,
vollst(cid:127)andigen R(cid:127)ontgen-Himmelsdurchmusterung von eROSITA (engl. \eROSITA all-
sky survey", eRASS) quanti(cid:12)ziert. Wir k(cid:127)onnen zeigen, dass eRASS circa drei Millio-
nen AGN im Energieband 0:5 (cid:0) 2:0 keV detektieren wird. Daraus ergibt sich, dass
eRASSimVergleichzurvorhergehendenHimmelsdurchmusterungvonROSAT(engl.
\ROSAT all-sky survey", RASS) einen (cid:24) 30 mal gr(cid:127)o(cid:25)eren AGN Datensatz haben
wird,weilesObjektemiteinem(cid:24) 30malschw(cid:127)acherenR(cid:127)ontgen(cid:13)ussdetektierenwird.
Desweiteren zeigen wir auf, dass dieser einzigartige AGN Datensatz eine mittlere
Leuchtkraft (Median) von (cid:24) 1044erg s(cid:0)1 haben wird, welche charakteristisch fu(cid:127)r die
gesamte AGN-Population im betrachteten Energieband ist. Wir prognostizieren fu(cid:127)r
den Datensatz eine mittlere Rotverschiebung (Median) von z (cid:25) 1. Etwa 40% dieser
AGNbe(cid:12)ndensichindemRotverschiebungsintervallvonz = 1(cid:0)2,indemdergr(cid:127)o(cid:25)te
Teil der R(cid:127)ontgenstrahlung von AGN erzeugt wird. Voraussichtlich 104(cid:0)105 der AGN
werden eine Rotverschiebungen von z ≳ 3 haben und 2000 (cid:0) 30000 u(cid:127)berschreiten
die Rotverschiebung von z = 4, worunter sich auch voraussichtlich einige der kos-
mologisch ju(cid:127)ngsten AGN be(cid:12)nden. Wir demonstrieren in dieser Arbeit, dass dieser

AGN Datensatz mit seinen einzigartigen Eigenschaften unseren Kenntnisstand u(cid:127)ber
die r(cid:127)aumliche Dichte von AGN als Funktion von Rotverschiebung und Leuchtkraft
u(cid:127)ber eine weite kosmologische Zeitspanne stark verbessern kann. Desweiteren zeigen
wir auf, dass dieser Datensatz uns eine detaillierte Studie der r(cid:127)aumliche Korrelation
zwischen der Dunklen Materie (engl. \Dark Matter", DM) und AGN erm(cid:127)oglicht, weil
wir zum ersten Mal relativ kleine Intervalle fu(cid:127)r die Rotverschiebung und Leuchtkraft
bilden k(cid:127)onnen. Die resultierenden Ergebnisse werden unseren Erkenntnisstand u(cid:127)ber
dasWachstumsupermassereicherschwarzeL(cid:127)ocheru(cid:127)bereinenbreitenkosmologischen
Zeitraum und deren Auswirkungen auf die Galaxienevolution wesentlich verbessern.
Wir zeigen zum erstem Mal auf, dass bedingt durch die Gr(cid:127)o(cid:25)e und Tiefe von eRASS,
der AGN Datensatz mit Hilfe der Detektierung von baryonischen akustischen Oszil-
lationen (engl. \baryon acoustic oscillations", BAOs) als ein kosmologisches Lineal
genutzt werden kann. Es wird m(cid:127)oglich sein, BAOs mit hoher statistischer Signi(cid:12)kanz
im bisher nicht vermessenen Rotverschiebungsbereich von z (cid:24) 1 (cid:0) 2 zu detektie-
ren. Dies wird dazu beitragen die Parameter des kosmologischen Standardmodells
genauer zu bestimmen.
In dem zweiten Teil dieser Dissertation haben wir die bisher genaueste Messung
der Intensit(cid:127)ats(cid:13)uktuationen des unaufgel(cid:127)osten CXB im Energieband 0:5 (cid:0) 2:0 keV
fu(cid:127)rdieWinkelskalenvon≲ 17′ durchgefu(cid:127)hrt.Dafu(cid:127)rnutztenwirdieR(cid:127)ontgenbeobach-
tungen vom XBOOTES-Feld, welches die derzeit gr(cid:127)o(cid:25)te zusammenh(cid:127)angende Him-
melsdurchmusterungendesR(cid:127)ontgenteleskopsChandra darstellt.Wirstellenfest,dass
fu(cid:127)r kleine Winkelskalen (≲ 2′) das gemessene Leistungsspektrum der CXB Intensi-
t(cid:127)ats(cid:13)uktuationen weitestgehend im Einklang mit einem konventionellen AGN-Inten-
sit(cid:127)ats(cid:13)uktuations-Modell ist, wenngleich wir eine Abweichung von 30% feststellen.
Diese Abweichung kann allerdings auch als eine Herausforderung angesehen werden,
um unseren bisherigen Kenntnisstand u(cid:127)ber die r(cid:127)aumliche Korrelation zwischen DM
und unaufgel(cid:127)osten AGN zu erweitern und komplexere AGN-Intensit(cid:127)ats(cid:13)uktuations-
Modelle mit unserer Messung zu testen. Fu(cid:127)r Winkelskalen von ≳ 2′ messen wir
eine signi(cid:12)kante Abweichung von bis zu einer Gr(cid:127)o(cid:25)enordnung von dem beobachteten
Leistungsspektrum im Vergleich zu dem AGN-Intensit(cid:127)ats(cid:13)uktuations-Modell. Wir
veranschaulichen, dass eine instrumentelle Ursache ausgeschlossen werden kann und
zeigen auf, dass diese starke Abweichung im beobachteten Leistungsspektrum mit
keiner bekannten R(cid:127)ontgenquelle beschrieben werden kann. M(cid:127)oglicherweise ist mehr
als eine R(cid:127)ontgenquelle fu(cid:127)r die starke Abweichung verantwortlich. Allerdings sollte
die dominierende R(cid:127)ontgenquelle, welche die starke Abweichung verursacht, von ex-
tragalaktischer Natur sein. Zum Abschluss geben wir Vorhersagen, in welcher Form
eRASS die Studien des unaufgel(cid:127)osten CXB vorantreiben wird.

Abstract
Large X-ray surveys are a powerful tool to study the large-scale structure (LSS) of
the Universe. The scienti(cid:12)c impact of LSS studies using active galactic nuclei (AGN)
in X-ray surveys can be signi(cid:12)cantly increased by conducting wider and deeper X-
ray surveys and studying the surface brightness (cid:13)uctuations of the unresolved cosmic
X-ray background (CXB).
In the (cid:12)rst part of this Thesis, we have investigated the prospects of using the
AGN sample to be detected by the upcoming eROSITA all-sky survey (eRASS)
for LSS studies. We show that eRASS will detect about 3 million AGN in the
0:5(cid:0)2:0keV band. This will result in a (cid:24) 30 times larger number of sources and a
(cid:24) 30 times better sensitivity than its (cid:24) 25 year old predecessor, the ROSAT all-sky
survey (RASS). We show that this unprecedented AGN sample will have a median
luminosity of (cid:24) 1044erg s(cid:0)1, which is typical for the entire AGN population in this
energy band. It will have a median redshift of z (cid:25) 1 and approximately 40% of the
objects will be in the redshift range of z = 1(cid:0)2, where the bulk of the X-ray emission
of AGN is produced. About 104(cid:0)105 AGN are predicted to be beyond redshift z = 3
and about 2000(cid:0)30000 beyond z = 4, which will potentially include some of the
earliest AGN in the Universe. We demonstrate that, given these unique properties,
the eRASS-AGN sample will be able to signi(cid:12)cantly improve our current knowledge
of the AGN spatial density as a function of redshift and luminosity over a wide range
of cosmic time. Further, we show that it will enable us, for the (cid:12)rst time, to perform
detailed redshift- and luminosity-resolved studies of the clustering strength of X-ray
selected AGN. All these measurements will dramatically improve our understanding
of the growth of supermassive black holes over cosmic time and its implications for
galaxy evolution. We demonstrate for the (cid:12)rst time that, given the breadth and
depth of eRASS, it will be possible to use AGN as a cosmological probe via baryon
acoustic oscillation (BAO) measurements. We will be able to convincingly detect
BAOs in the currently uncharted redshift range of z (cid:24) 1(cid:0)2, which will improve the
constraints on the cosmological model.

In the second part of this Thesis, we have conducted the most accurate measure-
menttodateofthebrightness(cid:13)uctuationsoftheunresolvedCXBinthe0:5(cid:0)2:0keV
band for angular scales of ≲ 17′. For this we used the XBOOTES survey, the cur-
rently largest continuous survey of the X-ray telescope Chandra. We (cid:12)nd that on
small angular scales (≲ 2′) the observed power spectrum of the brightness (cid:13)uctua-
tions is broadly consistent with the conventional AGN clustering model, although
with a 30% deviation. This deviation nevertheless presents a good opportunity to
improve our understanding of clustering properties of unresolved AGN by testing
more sophisticated clustering models with our measurement. For angular scales of
≳ 2′ we measure a signi(cid:12)cant excess with up to an order of magnitude di(cid:11)erence in
comparison to the standard AGN clustering model. We demonstrate that an instru-
mental origin can be excluded. However, we also show that the excess can neither
be explained with any known X-ray source population by looking at strength of its
clustering signal and the shape of its energy spectrum. It might be caused by more
thanonetypeofsourcebutthedominantsourceappearstohaveextragalacticorigin.
Finally, we make predictions on how eRASS will be able to advance the studies of
the unresolved CXB.
